Course Description:

   Analytical chemistry, however, is much more than a collection of analytical methods and an understanding of equilibrium chemistry; it is an approach to solving chemical problems. This course I designed to describe Troubleshooting and problem solving production chemistry issues and their interpretations.


   The goal in preparing this Course is to find a more appropriate balance between theory and practice, between “classical” and “modern” analytical methods, between analyzing samples and collecting samples and preparing them for analysis, and between analytical methods and data analysis.


    •  Optional, the Course includes On Job Training (OJT)

Who should attend?

   Laboratories chemists and lab technicians in oil fields, power stations, water treatment systems, chemical and petrochemical industries, and in oil refineries,etc.

Curse objectives:

    After completion this course, laboratory managers, staff, and others who might be affected should:

              • Describe the practice of analytical chemistry

              • Teach the proper use and importance of measurement statistics

              • Teach proper solution handling and standards preparation

              • Explain all injection Chemicals in Production and Optimize dosing rates.

              • Describe the Structure of all chemicals used in Chemical treatment of crude oil and

                water injection including Knowhow of Secrets of chemicals supplied by chemical suppliers.


              • Reinforce the principles of good laboratory practice

              • Provide a basic understanding of common analytical techniques

              • Provide guidance on the appropriate choice of technique for a given size & type of sample

              • Correctly identify absolute and relative errors, and use significant figures

              • Identify random and systematic errors, and calculate uncertainties and confidence intervals


              • Present results correctly, and test for precision and accuracy

              • Correctly prepare standard solutions and use appropriate calibration methods

              • Use appropriate software to perform scientific calculations and produce graphs

              • Be familiar with the correct use of volumetric glassware to prepare solutions and perform


              • Be familiar with the correct use and operation of pH and ion-selective electrodes


              • Be familiar with the correct use and operation of spectrometers, including UV / Visible,

                 FTIR, and flame atomic absorption/emission

              • Be familiar with basic chromatographic theory, and the operation of ion chromatographs for

                 water analysis

              • Be familiar with good laboratory practice (GLP) and the development of standard operating

                procedures (SOPS)
