Course Overview:

  A comprehensive five-day course covers such subjects as organic and inorganic scale deposition and control; corrosion; crude dehydration; water injection; chemical compatibility flow assurance; and fluids processing. It also demonstrates how process design and chemical applications can be used to improve treatment and recovery.


  In addition, this course is aimed at those who work with or around chemicals. Successful completion will prepare participants to look carefully at their own work activities when handling chemicals and contribute to the safer use and transport of chemicals in the workplace. It further goes on to teach the proper steps to control and reduce losses in the event of a spill.


  This intensive training course is designed to provide participants with the knowledge, experience and confidence needed to understand and effectively use different laboratory equipment and perform effective analysis in crude oil laboratories.


  The focus on this Course is on Crude Oil testing and the relevant ASTM test methods withthe numbers given, where possible the corresponding IP test method number is also presented


Course Objectives:

               • Understand scale and corrosion issues in oil fields

               • Sampling techniques, wellheads, and online

               • Conduct Water analysis using analytical instruments

               • How to recognize and develop solutions to operating problems in oil/water processing facilities

               • Recognize corrosive conditions and monitor corrosion rates

               • Select and apply corrosion inhibitors

               • Predict and treat emulsions

               • Understand causes and control of foaming

               • Predict scale forming conditions

               • Select and apply scale inhibitors

               • Describe Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)

               • Describe NFPA Labeling system

               • Describe Proper PPE for the various chemicals

               • Safely handle chemical containers

               • Safe storage of chemicals, protection needs and containment

               • Take actions and Precautions in the event of a spill

               • Limit a chemical spill disaster

               • Properly use a spill containment kit and clean up a chemical spill

               • Handle the chemical waste and used spill kit components

               • Basic oil chemistry

               • Basic analytical chemistry

               • IP/ASTM test methods (for crude), interpretation and

               • Validation of results

               • Preparation of samples for analysis
