Course Overview :

   Crude oil is the single largest traded commodity in the world. With the market proliferation of synthetic, high TAN, and extra-heavy crude oils, proper sampling, analysis, and reporting of data according to established standards is of paramount importance. Whether crude oil is refined in the near-term or stored for an extended period, it is fundamentally important that recognized procedures and standards be used in sampling and analysis.

   In addition, this course is directed at corrosion lab technicians, As Advanced Corrosion control Course in the hope that steady use will enhance the knowledge and attitudes mentioned, specifically:

               • Basics and Chemistry of corrosion and theories

               • Corrosion lab. Testing

               • Ability to recognize early indications of corrosion.

               • Awareness of the importance of early reporting.

               • Desire to take effective part in the solution.

Course Objectives:

   Participants will learn:

               • How representative samples are collected using automatic and manual methods.

               • About the test methods available for obtaining the data necessary to determine quantity for

                    custody transfer purposes and conformance to expected quality

               • How to evaluate the commodity for assessing handling and processing characteristics,

                    especially  opportunity crude oil.

               • The challenges facing refiners and analysts as crude oil streams become heavier, and higher in

                   sulphur and acid content.

               • Corrosion effect of Bacteria on oil, water and gas piping and equipment.

               • Corrosion mechanism and chemical reactions.

               • Corrosion prevention/ control techniques.

               • Corrosion inhibitors used in oil and gas industries, their specs and work mechanism.

Who Should Attend:

   Laboratory technicians and chemists responsible for the analysis of crude oil samples for quantity

and quality purposes

               • Refinery personnel responsible for evaluating crude oil to determine their processing


               • Operating (field) personnel responsible for collecting samples will also benefit from a better
